Journey to the Land of Coconut Trees and Backwaters – Kerala Munroe Island: This island was named after Colonel John Munroe, the British Resident of erstwhile Travancore State, also known as Mundrothuruthu. It is an inland island located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River, which is almost 25 km away from Kollam city. This place is actually composed of 8 islands, separated by small water channels and lakes. To witness the beauty of this mystical island, one can hire a canoe boat, which can take you through mangrove forests via narrow canals and waterways and coconut farms on the lakeshore. Munroe Island is the most unexplored destination and the hidden pearl in the backwaters.
