Bangalore (Road Trip to Billiranga Hills )

Road Trip to Billiranga Hills from Bangalore

Billiranga Hills also known as BR Hills lies on the eastern part of western ghat connecting both western ghats with eastern ghats. Still unknown to many people BR hills are the perfect place for your weekend trip or outing with family and friends. If you want to get away from the city crowd for a couple of days and do not want to travel too far, then BR Hills is one of your options from Bangalore or Mysore, Lies in Chamarajanagara district in Karnataka, BR hills are just 150 km away from Bangalore.

Places to visit in BR Hills:

1. Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary aka BRT Wildlife Sanctuary and tiger reserve is the prime attraction of this place. BRT Forest is kind of surprise for us, it is serene, enchanting, quite & blissful. The forest road is short in terms of wideness and it neatly laid. We driving inside the forest and the sideways full of scenic & greenery. We drove further and passed the BR temple and continues further the forest turned so dense and somewhat haunting. Spotting a tiger or any other wildlife is quite difficult only f you are lucky you can see.

2. Sri Ranganathar Temple
This is believed to be only Ranganathar in the whole of the world in Standing posture. In general, the Deity Sri Ranganathar will be in the lying posture including Srirangam (TN), SriRangapatna ( KA) etc.. Though there is no entry ticket to the temple, the Archana ticket is available for 20 rupees. The Car can go closer to the temple and we have to climb about 100 stairs to reach the Temple.

Where to stay:
There are limited options available for stay, some local hotels and homestays run by local villagers, not all of them are listed on MMT, OYO or any other hotel website.
K. Gudi Wilderness Camp is quite famous and attractive to many tourists  if you are planning to stay in BR Hills check this camp https://www.kgudiwildernesscamp.com/

Where to eat:
Again, there are not many options available to eat, a few places where we checked for food were Hotel Mayuri KRSTC and Giridarshini Hotel and Dhaba. Giridarshini serves delicious south Indian Thali on Banana Leave in just 80 rupees per thali.

How to Reach:
By Road:
There are two routes that you can take to B R Hills: Bangalore – Mysore highway and Bangalore – Kanakpura main road. Take Bangalore - Kanapura Man Road as it is less crowded, with no city traffic you will for sure enjoy the drive. If you are planning to travel by bus then take a bus to Chamarajnagar from Bangalore/Mysore. From Chamarajnagar, BR hills are just 27 km upon reaching Chamarajnagar you can either hitchhike or take local transport from the village to reach BR Hills.

By Train:
Mysore Railway Station is the nearest railway station to BR Hills, located a distance of 82 km. You can hire taxis and cabs or take buses to reach BR Hills.

Total Expense: Overall, Its was a wonderful weekend one-day road trip cost us around 3500 Rupees, we were 5 friends so per person 700 only.
